Additional learning support
At our school, we are committed to ensuring every student is ready to learn and able to fully participate in all aspects of school life. We provide tailored support for students with disability and additional learning needs, helping them thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. A formal diagnosis is not required for a student to receive the support they need, assistance can begin at any stage of their schooling journey.
In addition to providing support, we also offer opportunities for extension and enrichment through our programs for high potential and gifted students. We recognise and nurture diverse talents and abilities, ensuring all learners are challenged and inspired to reach their highest potential.
Our inclusive approach means every child is valued, supported, and equipped to succeed academically, socially, and personally.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students require additional support to build confidence and perform at their best. We work closely with families to create personalised support plans and adjustments tailored to each child's unique needs.
We recognise the importance of culture and individual identity in learning. Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) are developed in partnership with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, their families, and communities. Central to the PLP process is listening to the voices of Aboriginal families and fostering strong relationships and collaboration. Through these partnerships, we support Aboriginal students to achieve their aspirations and reach their full educational potential.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers and support staff working together with families (and students, if needed)
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students with their advanced learning needs
-
small group tuition to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support for students
-
regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports
-
changes to the classrooms:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
personalised instruction, adapted content, or alternative approaches to help them engage fully with the curriculum.
-
assessment adjustments:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- scribe or reader
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
We understand the importance of a holistic approach to student wellbeing and learning. Using principles from the Berry Street Education Model, we know that students may need additional support when:
- Teachers observe changes in learning engagement, behaviour, or emotional regulation, recognising these as potential signs of underlying challenges.
- Ongoing assessment results and observations indicate a student may benefit from tailored strategies to enhance their growth.
- Parents and carers express concerns or seek support, reinforcing our commitment to strong partnerships and open communication.
By responding with empathy, consistency, and evidence-based practices, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
